This is a small read me explaining exactly what this is.
The
M.A.D.D.s
(Marathon Automated Defense Drone)
Are back.
**************
What's new in this version: 1.5
bug fixes. lots of 'em.
physics
beserk and tiny madds have the correct shapes and physics now. beserk drones can now die (yikes! bad bug). modified the drones behavior, they should act more like madds than bobs now. tweaked their firing rate.
shapes
fixed the colors, made explosions appear bright. the madd's stripes should glow now, makes it easier to see them. (if I did it right, the beserk ones should have a glowing ammo cartridge too (the yellow box)).
some people complained about the madds being to big, I shrunk them 1 scale factor.
map
got rid of a lot of the more annoying cannisters. placed some forgotten transparent textures. added a few lighting effects. corrected a rather lot of spelling errors in the term (thanks!).
note: this is 1.5 and not 1.1 because this patch is the result of many tweaks at my house and I'm sure I have an old one lurking around my hardrive somewhere....
*************
This patch replaces the M2 bobs in the INFINITY shapes file. I have no idea if it will work on an M2 one.
For anyone who has no idea what a madd is, I will give a quick history:
• The madds were the large blue (sometimes green) legged security drones that romed
• the original marathons halls. They played a major role in the defense network of the
• ship.
• The madds were loved for a good reason, it would often rip through enemies
• (and sometime you for that matter...) with it's
• rather accurate version of the assault rifle.
• A lot of people were POed the bungie got rid of them in M2. Some people put out a
• request for any entrepreneur to try and find some way of putting them back in.
I have tried my best to fufill that request.
NOTE: The enclosed Shapes patch must be used with Anvil 1.0.2. Any older version will not be able to import the files correctly.
pertaining to the other files:
• I tried to make this patch as physics independent as possible. if you decide to not use the PM, the madds will not act stupid or not work.
The madds only have a hard death. However, since this is PM independent, they still have a soft death- it just happens to be the same as their hard death.
If you don't use the PM, the following will happen:
• the madds will make grenade firing sounds when they move. (they sound like an old plane)
• they will no longer have a smoke trail when they die.
• they will still sound like bobs. (kinda stupid)
• they won't shoot smg bullets. (note: this is not as bad as it sounds, they will still shoot as fast as they should because that is part of the shapes file, they just won't be shooting the right type of bullet.)
on the included map "Where do you bury the survivors?"...
This map was inspired by the lost network packets. If you dom't know what those are, go find the Marathon's Story web page.
The map already has the madd pm merged into it.
There a few things this map doesn't illustrate. Most notably, how well the madds act. There seem to problems with any alien that launches an attack. they just sit in corners squaking. I think this has to do with the number of aliens on the map at any one time. If you want to see just how well they can fire, copy your M2 map into the M∞ folder and play with that.
also: the asimillated m2 bobs got turned into beserk drones. I didn't put these into the map because there was no place in the plot.
Misc.
the drones are not as noticeably colored the same way as the original bobs. They do have markings though.. two hash marks on the legs and on the side of the gun indicate which squad they belong to.
the green and blue squads are the same. there is no difference in their haelth.
the tan security drones have a much higher health and fire grenades to boot. (as do the beserk ones).
